Qwen3-30B-A3B: best MoE model for consumer hardware

Qwen3-30B-A3B MoE model on consumer GPU

This is the mixture-of-experts (MoE) sweet spot: 30 billion total parameters with only 3 billion active per token. In practice that means the capability of a 30B model at the speed of a 3B one, with one catch.

You still load all 30B parameters into memory. At 4-bit quantization that is roughly 18GB of video memory (VRAM), which fits a 24GB card comfortably and squeezes onto 16GB cards with some offloading to system RAM. The result is striking: near-30B quality at speeds that make interactive chat pleasant.

Watch the context window on MoE models. The key-value cache scales with total parameters, so long conversations on a 30B MoE need more headroom than the weights alone suggest. Leave a few gigabytes free.

If you own a 24GB graphics card, this is one of the best models you can run. It uses nearly all your VRAM productively instead of leaving half idle the way a 7B would. On smaller cards, stick with dense 7B to 14B models. The offloading penalty eats the MoE advantage. Verify the fit for your card.
